Perfectbinding is a trade name for the process of gluing loose pages to a paper wraparound cover to produce a paperback book. This economical method of binding is effective for catalogs, magazines, textbooks and novels.
Judeco can perfectbind books any size up to 12" x 18" and up to 1.5" thick. Prices are based on the size of the spine and the quantity of books according to the price list below.
The hot gluing process works best with uncoated papers. But many coated papers will bind well to C1S cover stock, because we are able to micro-slit the bind edge of the text block prior to gluing. This ensures penetration of the hot glue for maximum holding power.
Paper grain should run parallel to the spine for both text and covers.
Text pages should be supplied 1-up on flat sheets in collated sets with markers between each set. Pages should be trimmed to the bind edge (there is no grind-off in our process) and allow for at least 1/4" final trim on three sides.
Covers need to be supplied as flat untrimmed press sheets, as Judeco will score and trim as needed. Cover layout needs to allow for 1/4" bleed on three sides. Contact Judeco to request free cover layout templates.
Note: Critical spine designs might require a one-off test run and binding to ensure optimum results.
